Iranian hackers have threatened to disrupt the World Cup in the U.S. using drones

The Iran-linked group Handala claims to have gained access to data from FBI drones. The group’s statement was reported by SITE, an American organization that monitors the activity of Islamist sources. Handala representatives stated that for several months they had access to “all images and data on all suspects” recorded by the FBI’s FPV drones. The agency uses such drones near World Cup stadiums to prevent unauthorized aircraft from entering the airspace.

Handala also issued threats, according to Bild.

“You’d better step up security at the World Cup; we really don’t like some of these teams,” as well as: “FPV drones are everywhere; you never know when one of them might land right on your team bus,” the group stated.

The U.S. State Department has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the apprehension of Handala members.
