Labor migrants

The main concentration of foreign workers is observed in Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, as well as in Riscani and Leova. Over the last three years, the number of applications for work permits has increased by about one thousand annually.

In 2025 alone, the authorities registered more than 6.1 thousand applications for granting or extending the right of temporary stay for labor activities. More than 5.7 thousand applicants received authorization, while 453 cases were denied.

In agriculture, such foreigners are increasingly being hired for seasonal work – picking strawberries, cherries, apricots, plums and grapes, as well as for work in greenhouses.

Also, we should not forget that Moldova currently has more than 87 thousand citizens of Ukraine. Of these, over 77 thousand are officially registered under the status of temporary protection, about 3.5 thousand have the status of temporary residence, and several thousand people have obtained citizenship of the Republic of Moldova.

Currently, more than 1.6 thousand citizens of Ukraine are officially employed in Moldova. They mainly occupy positions in the fields of programming, engineering, services (as cooks, waiters, salesmen), medicine, education and production enterprises.

Recruitment companies note the growing demand for foreign workers. They are most often hired in construction, agriculture, delivery services, factories and processing plants.
