According to a draft decree currently under consideration in the government, the authorities decided to exclude the category of non-Olympic from the system of bonuses for results obtained at international competitions. The authors argue that the 37 million lei allocated for bonuses in 2026 was insufficient to cover the requests for maximum rates, which would have required about 52 million lei.
The ministry justifies the reduction by saying that non-Olympic disciplines are not recognized by the International Olympic Committee, have lower levels of competition and are not subject to the same rigorous international scrutiny as Olympic sports. By eliminating these categories, officials hope to optimize budget expenditures and direct limited funds to high-caliber athletes.
In addition to eliminating bonuses for non-Olympic fields, the draft brings several innovations regarding training conditions.
Federations will be able to include in travel expenses a period of 2-3 days for acclimatization of athletes, necessary to adapt to the time zone or climatic conditions before major competitions.
The possibility to pay technical staff of volunteers or temporary staff involved in the organization of competitions on the territory of the country will be introduced, with a limit of maximum 300 lei per day.
The term sports activity is extended to include training camps.
The draft should be adopted by the government.
We shall remind you that earlier parliament adopted in the first reading a draft law, according to which private organizations, including commercial societies, will be able to participate in the organization, financing and development of sports activities.
