The Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) warns of the continued threat of outbreaks of swine fever (ASF) among both domestic pigs and wild boars. For this reason, the agency urges the public and all farmers not to use food waste of animal origin in pig feed and to strictly observe biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Citizens are also asked not to purchase animals without veterinary certificates and foodstuffs in unauthorized places and (especially!) not to purchase pork from neighboring countries in order to import it to the Republic of Moldova. In case such cases are detected, it will be confiscated and destroyed due to the risk posed.
ANSA also strongly recommends that in case of a bite or contact with saliva of an animal, the inhabitants of the country immediately wash the wound with plenty of soap and water and urgently seek medical assistance.
ANSA recalls the willingness to reward people who report the discovery of wild boar carcasses and their whereabouts. During 2025, six people received 50 euros each for reporting the discovery of wild boar carcasses.
