Mihai Popşoi praised the assistance of external partners and the role of the EU, the Energy Community and the cooperation with the USA in strengthening Moldova’s sustainability and advancing the process of integration into the European energy market. At the same time, he reiterated Moldova’s commitment to continue the European course and the desire to remain “a reliable partner for the European Union and Ukraine”.
“Any support given to Ukraine is equally a support for Moldova and for the security of the entire region. Five years ago, our country was a classic example of energy dependence and vulnerability. Today, Moldova is an example of resilience, although still in the process of strengthening energy independence, but with significant progress towards this goal,” Popşoi said.
The minister spoke about the impact of the regional situation on Moldova, including our country’s experience in managing crises “caused by a system built around the sole supplier of natural gas”.
The deputy prime minister said that Moldova has made significant progress in this field in recent years, getting rid of the dependence on the Russian gas and gaining access to international markets, which “strengthened the flexibility and sustainability of the energy system”.
Deputy Prime Minister listed the measures implemented by the Chisinau authorities to reduce vulnerabilities and strengthen energy sustainability, including synchronization with the European electricity grid ENTSO-E, development of interconnections with Romania, expansion of renewable energy production capacities and diversification of supply sources.
