Almost 62% of insurance premiums in Moldova were arranged through intermediaries

Through brokers and insurance agents, 61.9% of all insurance premiums in the country in 2025 were written.

Such data was provided by National Bank of Moldova The National Bank of Moldova noted that last year intermediaries concluded about 1.224 million insurance contracts, which is 57.3% of the total number of contracts on the market. The total amount of premiums issued through intermediaries reached 2.073 billion lei, increasing by 10% or by 186.6 million lei compared to 2024.

The main market share was occupied by insurance brokers: they accounted for 70.6% of all intermediary operations. Insurance agents accounted for 16.9%, while bank insurance agents (bancassurance) accounted for 12.4%.

The highest level of intermediation was recorded in the life insurance segment – 95.5% of all premiums in this category were written through intermediaries. In the general insurance sector, the indicator amounted to 60.7%.

The commission income of insurance intermediaries reached 707.1 million lei during the year. Almost the entire amount (99.2%) was received for mediation in the conclusion of insurance contracts. Another 0.8% was received for consulting services and support in the settlement of insurance cases.

According to NBM data, at the end of 2025, 57 insurance and reinsurance brokers, 51 insurance agents and 34 bancassurance agents were operating in Moldova.

Insurers collected 3.3 billion lei

The growth of the role of intermediaries takes place against the background of the general expansion of the insurance market. According to National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova In 2025, insurance companies collected 3.35 billion lei in gross premiums – by 3.1% more than a year earlier. At the same time, insurance compensation payments increased by 16.3%, to 1.49 billion lei.

Earlier, the National Bank reported that as early as in the first half of 2025, the degree of intermediation in the market reached 62.6%, which indicates the continuing shift of insurance products sales towards brokers and agent networks.
