“This is the first bilateral visit of a Cypriot president to Moldova, which confirms the partnership relations between the two countries, as well as the support for our country’s European course, given that Cyprus holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2026,” the Presidency said in a press release.
The presidents will hold a press conference in the building of the Presidency, after which they will take part in events dedicated to Europe Day at the Great National Assembly Square, where they will address citizens at 20:30.
The official welcoming ceremony as well as the press conference will take place in the evening of the same day.
Recall that on January 1, Cyprus assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU for a period of six months. The presidency program focuses on the enlargement of the European Union, which is seen as a strategic investment in the autonomy and security of the EU, as well as an instrument to strengthen peace and stability in Europe. Maia Sandu took part participated in the opening ceremony of the Presidency on January 7.
