The Oscars hosting organization has published updated rules that include several points regarding the use of generative artificial intelligence.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said that only characters “listed in the film’s credits and played by people with their consent” will be considered for the acting and Best Actor categories.
A similar requirement has been introduced for screenplays – they must be “written by people”.
Representatives of the organization also reserved the right to request additional information about the nature of the use of generative AI in the creation of films.
At the same time, the Academy used the term “artificial intelligence” only once in the text.
The new rules appeared against the background of the spread of neural networks in Hollywood. Now the movie industry is actively discussing the return to the screens of the deceased actor Val Kilmer in the movie “Deep as the Grave” – for his “resurrection” use AI.
