
The agreement aims to strengthen bilateral partnerships in areas such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, as well as the exchange of experience and best practices between the two countries.
Hayashi Yoshimasa noted the potential of the Memorandum for concrete benefits to citizens by promoting responsible use of digital technologies and adapting society to new technological changes.
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmokescu stressed the strategic role of the IT and communications sector as one of the key pillars of Moldova’s economic and industrial development, as well as the importance of strengthening cyber security in the context of digitalization.
$140 mln in agriculture, healthcare and education
In Chisinau, Japanese Interior and Communications Minister, chairman of the Japan-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship League Yoshimasa Hayashi also met Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Mihail Popshoi, who emphasized the importance of Japan’s constant support and its role as a reliable partner in Moldova’s development. He noted that over the past years, Japan has allocated over $140 million for Moldova’s development. The funds went to agriculture, healthcare and education. The support is realized through the projects of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The sides also discussed the expansion of economic cooperation and the attraction of Japanese investments, including in infrastructure, as well as the prospects of projects of regional importance, such as the modernization of the railroads.
Parliamentary Dimension
The Japanese delegation met Moldovan parliamentarians. During the meeting with Speaker Igor Grosu, they discussed possibilities to boost Moldovan-Japanese cooperation, from trade and investments to interaction between parliaments.
“Japan is a sincere friend of Moldova. And even at a great distance, these friendly relations become really close when they are expressed in concrete support to people,” Grosu said.
