Villages with 3,000 inhabitants will not receive subventions for voluntary unification

Local self-government reform continues to be the top topic in Moldova. In general, mayors realize its necessity, but point out serious risks and lack of guarantees for communities, believing that it should be carried out gradually and through real consultations.

These views were expressed by local elected representatives in a broadcast on a national TV channel. They point out that forced mergers and the 3,000 population threshold could create inequalities and risks for small communities.

Politicization of the reform should be excluded

Thus, Andrei Coval, mayor of Nimoreni village, Ialoveni district, argues that the merger of mayoralties should be carried out step by step, and politicization of the reform should be excluded.

A similar opinion was expressed by Silvia Croitoru, mayor of Barboeni village, Nisporeni district, who believes that the reform should be carried out gradually, and only after the public utilities are operational.

Rodica Croitoru, mayor of Hirbovec village, Anenii Noi district, points out that villages with a population of 3000 or more inhabitants will not have access to subventions because they are not in the process of merger, which is unfair to them.

Population outflow from villagesmay increase

Mariana Rusu (Bolţun village, Nisporeni district) believes that the decision to merge should be made not only by the councilors and mayor, as prescribed by law, but by the entire community. In this context, Constantin Cecoi from the village of Cărbuna, Ialoveni district, warns that a hasty reform and lack of real consultations may lead to an increase in the outflow of population from the villages.

Mayor Valeriu Lazarenco from Leuseni, (Telenesti district) does not understand what is the point of removing the mayor and replacing him with a representative of the mayor.

The general opinion of the community was expressed by Ion Scutaru (Mayor of Căpriana village, Străşeni district), who believes that the municipalization proposed by CALM will create more conditions for community development than simply reducing the number of districts.
