Moldovan Customs explores best practices in identifying dual-use goods

Employees of the Moldovan Customs Service participated in a three-day seminar on "Goods Identification to Facilitate Physical Control of Dual-use Goods", organized with the support of international partners.

Workshop on "Goods Identification to Facilitate Physical Control of Dual-Use Goods"

The event was attended by national and international experts, as well as customs officers, employees of the Main Inspectorate of Police and the Main Inspectorate of Border Police, the CU press service specified.

The purpose of the training is to strengthen institutional capacity in the field of strategic trade control and expand interagency cooperation. During the course, participants acquired practical skills in identifying dual-use goods, analyzing transportation documents, assessing physical characteristics of goods and applying risk-based controls.

Opening the event, Viorel Doage, Deputy Director of the Customs Service, emphasized the importance of implementing international best practices in the field of strategic goods control, noting that this process directly contributes to improving the efficiency of the authorities’ work and its compliance with international standards. At the same time, Viorel Doage, an expert accredited by the World Customs Organization in the field of strategic goods control, stressed the need for continuous development and improvement of skills in this area of global importance.

This initiative contributes to the prevention of illicit trafficking of sensitive goods and the effective application of customs export control legislation.

The event was organized by the European Union’s Export Control Program (EU P2P) in cooperation with the EU Mission to the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the United States of America.
