According to the National Health Insurance Company (NHIC), a total of more than 683 thousand high-throughput medical examinations were performed and financed at the expense of compulsory health insurance funds during 2025. Compared to 2024, this figure increased by approximately 16 thousand procedures. More than 372 million lei were allocated to pay for these services, which is almost 38 million lei more than a year earlier.
A separate direction of financing is related to the program “Oncological Patient”. In 2025, about 60.6 million lei were allocated for its implementation, within which about 16,500 diagnostic services were performed, which is 15% more. Every month, about a thousand patients receive diagnostic services within this program, while about 20% undergo repeated examinations.
Additionally, more than 7 million lei were allocated to conduct tests necessary to start antiviral treatment of chronic viral hepatitis and liver cirrhosis B, C and D, as well as to determine the degree of liver damage.
High-performance medical services are provided on the basis of modern diagnostic technologies and are among the expensive types of medical care. In 2025, they were provided by 79 service providers, including 15 republican, 11 municipal, 22 district and 31 private medical institutions.
Access to such tests is available to insured persons under the compulsory health insurance system, subject to referral through an established medical procedure and prior appointment in the information system “Reporting and Record of Medical Services” (SIRSM).
