
Imports of soft wheat in 2025 in the EU countries decreased from 4.43 to 2.15 million tons (-52%). In addition to the volumes, serious changes occurred in the structure of supplies, notes the SPIKE BROKERS resource.
The share of the former leader – Ukraine – fell from 67.3% (2.98 mln tons) to 22.3% (479 thousand tons), which means the loss of leadership.
Its place was partially taken by Canada, which raised its share to 40% (858,000 tons) against 13% last year.
Moldova and Serbia took the opportunity to increase their presence to 17.3% and 14.3%.
As a result, the EU market in the 2025/26 season became more diversified with stronger positions in North America and the Balkans.
Agriculture and Food Minister Ludmila Catlabuga said Moldova exported 585,000 tons of wheat in 2025. The average export price of wheat last year amounted to 3.53 lei per kilogram, which is slightly lower than in 2024.
