This was stated by General Mayor Ion Ceban at the weekly operational meeting on January 12.
The works announced by the tender are complex reconstruction measures that envisage increasing the length of the boulevard by 1 km up to the intersection with Bukovinia Street with two one-way carriageways of three lanes each.
At the same time, public transportation routes will be extended. The existing control center and trolleybus parking lot at the intersection with Dumeniuk St. will be dismantled and moved to Bukovinei St., next to the Port Mall. The new site will be able to accommodate 54 units of public transportation.
The project also envisages the construction of traffic circles at the intersections of Mircea cel Batryn Boulevard and Bukovinei Street, as well as at the intersection of Bukovinei and Nicolae Milescu-Spatarul Streets. Pedestrian paths will be widened, green areas and bicycle lanes will be developed, transportation hubs for alternative modes of transportation, parking lots and storm water drainage will be created.
Ion Ceban noted that the city administration has recently been working intensively on this project together with partners from the European Union.
After the winner of the tender is determined, the estimated duration of the works will be about 24 months. The information about the international tender was published on the specialized portal of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The tender closing date is March 6, 2026.
