
In the first case, a Porsche Cayenne vehicle was subjected to specialized control. The vehicle was traveling from Ukraine to Moldova. Both the driver and the passenger, a 44-year-old compatriot, stated that they were not carrying goods subject to declaration. Based on the risk analysis, it was decided to conduct a thorough check of the vehicle and luggage.
As a result of the inspection, metal matrices (stamps) for the production of 2 euro coins used in the coin manufacturing process were found, including inscriptions and symbols similar to those used on the euro coin. The goods found belonged to a passenger in the car.
The second case was recorded as a result of an inspection of a Mercedes Sprinter minibus with 20 passengers on board. It was traveling on the route Odessa – Chisinau.
Based on risk analysis, a decision was made to scan passengers’ luggage with special equipment. As a result, 430 commemorative coins were found in the luggage of a 52-year-old non-resident of the Republic of Moldova, which were not presented and declared in accordance with the legal requirements.
In both cases, the illegally smuggled property was seized. According to the Customs Service, the investigation is ongoing in order to establish all the circumstances and examine the facts in accordance with the legislation in force in Moldova.
