This was said during a meeting held by Moldovan Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolia and Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Paun Rogovay, who discussed the consolidation of bilateral cooperation in the infrastructure and transport sectors.
As reported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the Ukrainian embassy in Chisinau, the sides discussed, among other things, topical issues on the implementation of joint infrastructure projects within the European Commission’s “Paths of Solidarity” initiative, which supports the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to international markets and promotes the development of cross-border logistics and transport infrastructure. Among the topics touched upon were the modernization of road and railway infrastructure, bridge construction, road rehabilitation and increasing rail transport capacity.
The parties agreed that the implementation of specific projects in these areas will help boost trade flows and play an important role in Ukraine’s future recovery.
Paun Rogovay highlighted the importance of the initiative to create the Ungheni-Kishinev-Odessa expressway, and also called for the continuation of work on a common Ukrainian-Moldovan project, which envisages the construction of a bridge across the Dniester between the settlements of Cosautsi and Yampol.
Volodymyr Bolya drew attention to the fact that in the context of Russia’s constant attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure on the Danube and Black Sea, the expansion of the capacity of logistics routes through Moldova’s territory to Romania’s ports becomes a strategic priority. “Thus, cooperation in infrastructure goes beyond the economic dimension and represents a long-term investment in the stability, security and prosperity of the region as part of a united Europe,” Vladimir Bolia emphasized.
