According to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Gatlabuga, the cooperation between the Moldovan Government and IFAD contributes to the adaptation of Moldovan farmers to climate transformation, a major challenge for global agriculture. Innovative solutions such as access to water sources for irrigation, drought-resistant crops and resource-saving technologies implemented with IFAD’s assistance “represent a strategic advantage for the sector”.
Iurie Ushurelu, UCIP IFAD Director, pointed out the social impact of the Fund’s programs: more than 200 thousand inhabitants of rural Moldova have been assisted and 20 thousand new jobs have been created. About 35% of beneficiaries are young people and women, reflecting IFAD’s commitment to equality and supporting new generations of rural leaders.
