In summer, the members of the association believed that, despite the expected shortage of some types of honey (acacia, linden), beekeepers in Moldova will produce at least 3.5 thousand tons of honey – about the same as last year.
Adjustment of the forecast is connected with the decrease in honey exports – the main reliable marker for assessing the situation in the industry. Thus, according to ANARM, during January-November Moldova sent to foreign markets a little more than 3.7 thousand tons of honey. At the same time, in the structure of export goods, honey products probably account for no more than 1.5 thousand tons. This suggests that its reserves of beekeepers are lower than previously assumed.
As ANARM executive director Ion Maxim notes, since the second half of summer, wholesale prices for honey purchased for export have been growing by about 1-3 lei per month. At the moment, some procurers offer beekeepers up to 50 lei/kg (VAT included) for polyfloral (floral, mainly sunflower) honey.
