Laboratory tests revealed high levels of residues of the pesticide Dinotefuran, which is a violation of food laws. ANSA inspectors initiated a surprise inspection at the importer, as a result of which the tea shipment was detained and stored in conditions that prevented access to it.

The Agency emphasizes that it constantly monitors compliance with the maximum permissible limits of pesticide residues in food of plant origin, both domestically produced and imported.

In 2024-2025 alone, 958 samples were examined, of which 156 samples were found to exceed the permissible norms of pesticide residues. Non-compliant batches of tea were not allowed for sale, but were returned to the country of origin (17,965 kg) or destroyed (13,313 kg).
