Cross-border traffic time for perishable goods will be reduced

The Republic of Moldova joined the Convention on Common Transit on November 1, 2025, and in parallel, the National Transit System (NCTS) was integrated into the European and international customs network. The integration will contribute to more efficient trade, including reducing the waiting time of truckers at customs, Logos Press reported.

The benefits of the common transit procedure apply to all economic entities involved in international transportation, including the agri-food sector, where speed and predictability of customs clearance are crucial, the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry said in a release.

The application of the procedure allows the transit declaration to be submitted electronically at the point of departure, using a single declaration and guarantee valid for the entire route. The system eliminates the need for additional customs formalities at each border, and the transit declaration is recognized up to the final destination in all States Parties to the Convention. The itinerary of goods is tracked digitally, allowing for controlled transportation and secure exchange of information between participating Customs authorities.

The procedure of common transit is applied both for transportation of goods from the European Union to Moldova and exports to the states acceding to the Convention. This procedure can also be applied to transportation in transit through the territory of the Republic of Moldova, with the place of departure or destination in a member state of the common transit system.
