The findings were based on the GPI, the Global Peacefulness Index, based on 2024 data.
The World Population Review website says that this is the main indicator used to quantify the security of a particular country. A number of factors are taken into account in its assessment. As a general rule, the higher the GPI, the less secure a country is. The most important factors include the level of violent crime, the country’s relations with its neighbors, whether the country is at war, the frequency of terrorist attacks and the stability of the government.
The most dangerous country on the continent, given the peacefulness index, is Ukraine. Then come Russia, Belarus, Cyprus and France. Moldova is in sixth place, followed in descending order by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania and Greece.
Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Ireland and Iceland have the lowest scores (in descending order).
The GPI index is used, in particular, by tour operators promoting a country as a tourist destination.
