The university called the event a step that strengthens the country’s position on the map of the global technological world.

By conferring the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, the Technical University of Moldova expressed its gratitude to the engineer who changed the course of technological history and showed that innovation can go hand in hand with humanity.

In a solemn speech, the university’s rector Viorel Bostan noted that Wozniak embodies the idea of combining engineering thinking with humanistic values: “Steve Wozniak proved that technology should serve human beings. His example inspires engineers all over the world – and in Moldova – to seek a balance between innovation and human sense”.

In his speech, Steve Wozniak spoke about the importance of innovation, creativity and freedom of thinking to create something that did not exist before. He shared memories of his early college years when, away from his parents, he was given the intellectual and physical freedom to experiment and explore what really interested him. Unique places and moments that provide a sense of personal fulfillment and inspiration are also important to him.

As Vyacheslav Kunev, founder of Gustos.life and senior lecturer at TUM, noted, it is performances like this that inspire to learn and achieve new things: “It is interesting to hear from a legend how many times his ideas were questioned, how many times they were rejected, but he, as an engineer from God, just did what he was interested in and tried to be better at it”.

Steve Wozniak was born in 1950 in San Jose (USA). Together with Steve Jobs, they founded Apple Computer Inc. in 1976 and created the Apple I, the first fully functional personal computer. A year later came the Apple II, which became a global symbol of technological progress and made computers available to millions of users.

After leaving Apple, Wozniak devoted himself to educational and philanthropic initiatives, supporting digital literacy programs and advocating for free access to knowledge.

Steve Wozniak was in Chisinau to participate in Moldova Business Forum III, the country’s largest business conference. The forum gathered more than 1,000 participants, including investors, entrepreneurs and opinion leaders. At the event, Wozniak shared his experience and vision for the future of technology.
