Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nikitin said at a government meeting that the Skuleni checkpoint will become the fourth border crossing point where the concept of joint control will be implemented. Thanks to this, the border crossing will become faster and easier, and security will be improved due to closer cooperation between the authorities. Trade relations between the settlements on both banks of the Prut will be strengthened and become more dynamic.
“These measures are aimed at making the border more efficient and convenient for everyone who crosses it,” said the head of the Interior Ministry.
To date, joint control on the Moldovan-Romanian border is already carried out at the Leuseni-Albita and Giurgiulesti-Galati checkpoints.
A similar control system will be implemented at the railway border crossing Cantemir (Moldova) – Falciu (Romania).
