Alexandru Munteanu
He emphasizes the need to retain professionals in the country and reform the justice system.
“Moldova’s economy is now largely based on consumption, and we should try to channel as much money as possible, including that which comes from abroad, into investments. This is a very important task, and we need to find attractive projects – and this is not easy. I just spoke to our director of the French Alliance, who is also the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and he told me about some French enterprises that want to come here but cannot find specialists. On the other hand, specialists are leaving Chisinau. We have universities that have trained good specialists, but they are leaving,” Munteanu told PRO TV Chișinău.
The candidate believes that investments and qualified labor force are key for the country’s development and stopping the demographic decline:
“How can we find such specialists who will stay here, so that the enterprises, projects and investments that will come here will help us solve, among other things, the demographic problem? We can no longer afford to lose our most active population. We need a combination between education and certain conditions that should be created here to open new businesses.”
Munteanu also referred to his previous experience in the financial sector, mentioning his participation in the fight against raider attacks. In this sense, he pointed out the need to continue strengthening justice:
“I fought against raiders 14 years ago, when the shares of Moldova Agroindbank were stolen. Then I realized that when justice in Moldova was completely taken over by dark forces, I saw how one court decision could wipe out the shares of a company or a bank overnight, and there is no mechanism to protect these investments. That’s when I realized that I didn’t understand anything. The first steps were taken – since the current government came, such stories are not heard anymore,” said Alexandru Munteanu.
He emphasized that the justice reform remains a serious but necessary challenge:
“We have a lot of work to do. Justice is a very complicated field. On the one hand, it must be independent, but on the other hand, it must be accountable. There should be a mechanism of accountability of the judicial system to the society, to the country”.
