New Head of EBRD in Moldova Appointed

Giuseppe Grimaldi

The EBRD press release notes that Mr. Grimaldi is currently the Head of the Sustainable Infrastructure Reform Sector in London. In his position in Chisinau, he will report to Arvid Turkner, EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova.

Giuseppe Grimaldi joined the EBRD from the private sector in his native Italy in 2014, where he worked as an economist in London. In 2016, he moved to the Ukraine office to focus on the energy sector in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.

On his return to London in 2021, he was promoted to Deputy Director, Senior Sector Economist. He took up his current position in 2022, having played a key role in creating the EBRD’s first policy framework for state-owned enterprises.

Mr. Grimaldi’s regional experience in supporting reforms to make countries more compliant with EU norms will be useful for his work in Moldova, an EU candidate country,” the press release said.

“Giuseppe will bring to his new position deep knowledge and experience in policy development and reform across the EBRD’s various countries, particularly in bringing together sector reforms and investments to improve the efficiency of the Bank’s operations, as well as the leadership and management experience he has gained in his current role,” Arvid Turkner said.

Mr. Grimaldi will succeed Katharina Bjorlin Hansen, who will take up her post as Head of the EBRD in Iraq this month.

The EBRD is a major institutional investor in Moldova, having invested more than €2.7 billion in 185 projects in the country over the past three decades.
