According to data published by nomadcapitalist.com, Moldovan citizens can travel without visas to 73 countries. In addition, they can enter 45 countries with a visa on arrival (at the border or at the airport). Another 5 countries can be visited with an ETA – electronic travel authorization. To travel to the remaining 75 countries in the ranking, a visa is mandatory.
The Irish passport is considered to be the “strongest” passport in the world, allowing entry to 176 countries without a visa. Also in the top (171-176 countries) are Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Malta, Italy, Norway, Luxembourg, Finland, Iceland and New Zealand. Romania is in 23rd place.
Interestingly, the number of countries available without a visa is not the only criterion for the “strength” of a passport. The ranking also takes into account such factors as personal freedoms, taxation and global perception of the country.
Among the most “weak” passports: Afghanistan (last place) – 40 countries, Yemen – 47, Eritrea – 52, Iraq – 45, Pakistan – 46 countries, Syria – 39 countries, Somalia – 45, North Korea – 52, Libya – 52, Palestine – 50, Sudan – 53 countries.
