The Memorandum was concluded between the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund (UMAEF) and the Fund for Development of Moldova (FDM).
Doina Nistor, Minister of Economy and Digitalization, said that the project aims to use the country’s intellectual and medical potential to create “medicine of the future”, which will benefit citizens, the economy and the education system.
“We already have all the conditions to integrate the medical field with smart technologies. There is a technological revolution going on now, and we are happy that we will be able to implement these solutions in Moldova’s medicine as well. For example, precision medicine and the implementation of artificial intelligence in healthcare show the highest growth rates in the world – from $29 billion in 2024 to a projected $500 billion in 2032. The growth is absolutely impressive, and we want these technologies to come to the medical sector in Moldova,” the minister said.
She said that Moldova already has highly qualified medical staff, recognized not only by the country’s citizens, but also by the European Union. The medical tourism sector, which is on the rise, has tripled its volumes in recent years, opening prospects for economic growth. At the same time, the IT sector, which has a turnover of over 700 million euros, is one of the largest in the country, and combining it with medicine will create new areas of development.
The HealthTech Hub will be the tenth in a network of innovation centers established in recent years and will encourage the emergence of startups in the medical and technology sectors.
Moldova is currently discussing the National Program of Digitalization and Innovation in Healthcare for the next five years.
