Moldova joins the International Solar Alliance

The ratification document to this effect was handed over to Moldovan Ambassador to India Anna Taban on August 4.

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is a global organization launched by India and France in 2015. It has 124 member and signatory countries. The Alliance works with governments to improve energy access and energy security around the world and promotes solar energy as a sustainable transition to a clean energy future.

ISA’s goal is to incentivize investment in solar energy while reducing the cost of technology and its financing. ISA promotes the use of solar energy in agriculture, health, transportation and energy. ISA member countries drive change by adopting policies and regulations, sharing best practices, harmonizing common standards, and attracting investment.

In doing so, ISA has developed and tested new business models for solar projects; supported governments in developing energy legislation and policy; pooled demand for solar technology across countries; and improved access to finance. The organization works with banks, development finance institutions, and private and public sector organizations.

Note that in December 2017, 15 countries signed and ratified the ISA Framework Agreement, making it the first international intergovernmental organization headquartered in India.
