This figure is an all-time record compared to March, when the share of local green energy was around 23%.
As specified in the Ministry of Energy, the total installed capacity of renewable energy plants in April exceeded 665 MW, and over the past four years the capacity of these installations has increased eight times.
According to the ministry, this development emphasizes the growing potential of renewable energy and demonstrates the importance of consolidating strategic investments in this area.
At the same time, these results reflect the significant contribution of consumers – households and companies that have installed PV panels using net metering and billing mechanisms, as well as eligible producers who benefit from support systems such as the fixed tariffs set for them.
It is worth noting that April is climatically favorable for renewable energy production, with moderate temperatures contributing to higher efficiency of PV installations compared to summer months. The average annual coverage of consumption from renewable sources in 2025 is estimated at more than 20%, as winter months are characterized by less favorable weather conditions. Last year, the share of electricity from renewable sources reached 16.7% of total energy consumption, compared to 9.2% in 2023 and only 3.1% in 2020.
Moldova maintains its commitment to increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix to 30% by 2030 under the European energy policy.
To stimulate this process, tenders for the construction of photovoltaic and wind parks with a total capacity of 165 MW have been launched in 2024. This is expected to attract investments of around €200 million. The financial offers will soon be analyzed and the auction winners announced, and the status of the respective major producer will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
A second round of auctions is planned for October 2025, which will also include battery-based energy storage solutions. Bids will be submitted until March 2026.
