And since Moldova receives more than 60% of its electricity from Romania, this could lead to price fluctuations there, which would also affect the market in the Republic of Moldova.
Currently, the daily electricity needs of consumers in Moldova are fully met by Energocom. As of August 1, the company had purchased a total of 9,523 MWh of electricity.
Up to 33.05% of the total volume comes from local renewable energy sources, 51.68% from bilateral import contracts, 13.85% from the Romanian “day-ahead” market via OPCOM and BRM (the Romanian Commodities Exchange), and 1.42% is supplied by cogeneration plants.
Energocom warns that during peak consumption hours, it may be necessary to purchase additional electricity on regional markets, where it is typically more expensive. In this context, responsible electricity use can help reduce procurement costs and maintain the balance of the national power grid.
The company recommends that residents avoid using energy-intensive household appliances between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. whenever possible and schedule the use of washing machines, dryers, electric boilers, and other equipment outside of peak hours. Energocom emphasizes that responsible consumption helps reduce the load on the power grid and lower electricity procurement costs.
