The meeting with farmers took place as part of the review of the draft budget and tax policy developed by the Ministry of Finance for the coming year and the preparation of a new document. The discussion focused on the Ministry of Finance’s proposals regarding the taxation of the agricultural sector and their impact on it.
During the meeting, topics such as VAT rates applicable to agricultural products and certain food items, the reverse charge mechanism, VAT refunds, and other relevant issues were discussed. Meeting participants expressed their opinions and concerns regarding the proposed tax policy measures.
As a reminder, the previously presented draft proposed the elimination of the 8% VAT rate and the introduction of a standard rate of 20% across the entire agricultural production chain.
As Logos Press previously reported, there have been two attempts in Moldova’s history to raise the VAT rate on agricultural products, under the Tarlev and Filat administrations. However, in both cases, the governments reverted to the reduced rate.
Victoria Belous emphasized that the Ministry of Finance remains open to dialogue with the aim of finding optimal solutions for both the business community and for filling the budget.
The Ministry of Finance will continue consultations as it develops the draft tax policy.
