Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Moldova have been building ties based on mutual respect and promoting pragmatic cooperation in various fields, which benefits the peoples of both countries, Popșoi said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency.

Recalling his visit to China in May of this year, Popșoi said he was very impressed by China’s development and the enormous potential for bilateral relations. The minister noted that Moldova hopes to intensify economic exchanges with China and explore opportunities in the fields of high-tech agriculture, biotechnology production, and the automotive industry.

Moldova will present its national pavilion for the first time at the 9th China International Import Expo, which will take place in Shanghai in November 2026. Popșoi called the expo an important platform for countries to connect with Chinese importers, distributors, and consumers, noting that this undoubtedly represents an excellent opportunity for Moldova.

He said that Moldova hopes to showcase its unique products and cultural charm to Chinese consumers through the expo, helping them better understand Moldova’s high-quality agricultural and food products—including wine and fruit— as well as its tourism potential.

“We look forward to making the most of this opportunity, especially given China’s generous and friendly offer, which will allow a country like Moldova to take a more prominent place in the Chinese market,” said Popșoi.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the solar power plant in Moldova, built with China’s support, is of great importance for strengthening Moldova’s energy security, creating opportunities through the use of modern renewable energy technologies, and laying a solid foundation for the development of the country’s green energy sector. He also expressed hope for strengthened cooperation with China in areas such as culture and education. “Culture, language, and people-to-people contacts are what unite us,” said Popșoi.
