The same restrictive measures were taken against two coaches and one doctor. All of them were part of the sports delegations of Russia and Belarus.

Moldovan officials said that the decision was taken in coordination with the European Weightlifting Federation (EWF). The remaining members of the sports delegations of Russia and Belarus have undergone enhanced border control. But if national security risks are identified, they may be expelled from the country.

Earlier, the president of the Moldovan Weightlifting Federation and EWF, Antonio Conflitti, said that “Russian and Belarusian weightlifters can not be excluded from the European Championships in Chisinau, as they compete under a neutral flag, the anthem of their country will not be played at the awards ceremonies and they do not represent their country at the competitions.

The European Weightlifting Championship is being held in Moldova for the first time. More than 300 athletes from 40 countries will take part in the competition, held at the Arena Chișinău from April 13 to 21.
