This status will allow the application of special mechanisms to speed up the implementation of the project, the ministry said. These include simplification and acceleration of administrative procedures, simplification of the process of obtaining permits and approvals, as well as faster and more efficient expropriation procedures in strict compliance with the current legislation.
This initiative is part of the context of strengthening Moldova’s energy security, including as a result of the synchronization of the national electricity system with the European ENTSO-E grid in March 2022, which created preconditions for accelerating interconnection projects and diversification of electricity supply sources.
The Straseni-Gutinas transmission line is a strategic investment aimed at increasing the capacity of the ENTSO-E network in Romania, which contributes to increasing the capacity of the power grid and ensuring safe and stable electricity supply to consumers. Currently, commercial transmission capacity is limited and the implementation of this project will allow for a significant expansion.
The project is part of efforts to modernize the national energy infrastructure along with other interconnection initiatives such as the Vulcanesti-Chisinau and Balti-Suchava lines. The route of the Straseni-Gutinas line, about 70 km long, will run through the territory of the Republic of Moldova, covering 25 settlements in the districts of Straseni, Calarasi, Nisporeni and Hincesti.
The estimated cost of the project is approximately 130 million dollars, and the project will be financed by the Government of the United States of America.
