The executive director of Soros Moldova Foundation, Daniela Vidaicu, notes that under the current geopolitical tensions, the country’s security directly depends on the functioning of the economy and the labor market.
“This means effective employment policies, adapted social protection measures and interventions that respond to demographic and economic challenges,” Vidaicu said.
According to her, the labor market cannot be considered separately from education, economy, innovation or social justice: “The central question is how to turn Moldova’s labor market into an attractive and inclusive space.”
For the overall security of the state
In this context, Soros Moldova Foundation supports the development of a new national employment program for 2027-2031. The document is expected to respond to a number of key challenges.
“The question of citizens, the question of society about what the labor market will be like in 2027-2031, with the hope that Moldova will become part of the European family, is a legitimate and justified question that we all have to answer. This document should provide clear answers to the existing challenges: low employment rate, informal economy, economic inactivity, mismatch between education and labor market requirements, as well as problems related to labor safety and security,” Vidaicu said at a social event organized at the initiative of the foundation.
According to the organization’s executive director, “a country in which the labor market is diverse, dynamic, accessible and efficient also provides a space of social security and the overall security of the state.”
The program will be aligned with the EU course
It is worth noting that last week the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection initiated the process of developing the National Employment Program for 2027-2030.
According to the ministry, the document will be a strategic framework to ensure continuity, strengthening and improving the effectiveness of employment measures. The program will aim to create a more inclusive, competitive and sustainable labor market that responds to economic, social and technological changes.
The document will be elaborated in line with the objectives of the National Development Strategy “European Moldova 2030”, the National Program of Moldova’s accession to the European Union for 2025-2029, as well as with the European standards and best practices in the employment sector.
The Ministry encourages all stakeholders – authorities, social partners, academia, civil society organizations and citizens – to participate in the elaboration of the document. Proposals and recommendations are accepted until May 12, 2026 by e-mail addresses: [email protected] and [email protected].
