Moldova for the first time achieved the right to participate in the World Table Tennis Championship

The Moldovan national team has won a ticket to the World Championship for the first time after reaching the playoffs of the European Team Championships under the auspices of the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU), - reports Logos Press.

At the team continental championship the national team of Moldova took the second place in Group G, losing to Croatia (2:3) and gaining a sensational victory over Austria (3:0). All meetings with the Austrians ended with the same score – 3:2. Vladislav Ursu defeated Maciej Kolodzajczyk, Andrei Putsuntike defeated Robert Gardos and Denis Cerne defeated Andreas Levenko. The victory allowed to enter the play-offs of the tournament, and thus opened the way for the Moldovan national team to debut at the World Team Championships, which will be held in London in April-May next year.

In the 1/8 finals of the European Championship Moldovan athletes met with representatives of Slovenia and lost with the total score 1:3. Ursu defeated Denis Cojula in the first meeting with the score 3:0. In the rest of the matches our players lost: Puzuntike lost to Darko Jorgic (1:3), Cerne lost to Bojan Tokic (0:3), and Ursu lost to Jorgic, failing to take a single set.

In the ETTU ranking, the Moldovan team is 40th among 49 countries. Slovenia is on the ninth position, while Austria is on the 12th.
