Gardeners are predicting a good plum crop

The current situation is interesting because, firstly, commercially significant harvests of early plums in Moldova are infrequent. Secondly, due to frosts, plantations of these fruits were significantly affected in many countries of Eastern Europe. That is, the demand for early plums on the European market due to the expected shortage of supply will be high.

Plum of late varieties, which is also unusual, according to farmers’ observations is damaged by frosts to a greater extent. However, this does not apply to the plum of the main late variety “Stanley”, which is the basis of the export potential of the industry.

At the same time, there are reports that this year there will be a very large shortage of fruit in the western regions of the Republic of Moldova, especially in the “plum” region of Nisporeni.

In the last three years, the plum harvest in Moldova is 80-100 thousand tons.
