Li Shanfu has also been deprived of political rights for life and his property confiscated, according to the agency. After the two-year reprieve period expires, the death sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment with no possibility of commutation or parole.

Details of the charges against China’s former defense chiefs have not been officially disclosed. The sentences come amid an ongoing anti-corruption campaign by the Chinese authorities in the country’s armed forces.
