
The gross balance of bank loans in January-March 2025 registered an increase of 9%, amounting to about 88 billion lei of disbursed funds. The share of problem loans (non-standard, doubtful and troubled) in the total volume of loans slightly increased and amounted to 4.3% on average.
At the same time, the problem rate varies from 3.1% to 8.1%, depending on the bank. In absolute terms, as calculated by the NBM, non-performing loans increased by 11.4% (up to 1.5 billion lei), while the share of overdue loans in the total volume, on the contrary, stabilized at around 2% (from 0.5% to 5.5%, depending on the bank).
The highest growth was registered in loans issued for the acquisition/construction of real estate – by 2,017.8 million lei (10.8%). Their volume reached 20,624.8 million lei. As regards other issued credits – by 1,408.0 million lei (62.7%), up to 3,653.0 million lei. As for credits issued for trade – by 1,237.8 million lei (7.4%), up to 18,072.1 million lei, as for consumer credits – by 837.9 million lei (5.7%), up to 15,598.8 million lei.
At the same time, during the first quarter of 2025, the biggest decrease was registered in credits granted to administrative-territorial units and institutions subordinated to administrative-territorial units, by 76.1 million lei (6.9%), to 1,019.6 million lei.
