For the fourth year the city is implementing a package of measures of economic and social character by the portfolio method. This pilot project is being implemented in all countries of the Eastern Partnership. In each of them a certain city was selected. In Moldova, Ceadir – Lunga was selected.
Valentin Cara, vice-mayor of Ceadir – Lunga, told LP that for three years of participation in the project, the city authorities were provided with 5 million lei from the “Mayors for Economic Growth” initiative. “At the same time, our contribution amounted to 4 million lei,” he says. – As a rule, its size does not exceed 10%, but we were able to add more of our own funds. And at their expense, to solve the current problems of energy supply and energy efficiency of public buildings in an integrated way, gradually realizing the transition to the so-called “green energy”.
The Mayor’s Office held consultations with representatives of the local business community and developed projects in various areas. The key ones concerned socio-economic infrastructure.
As a result, a kindergarten for 150 children was insulated and renovated. The business incubator was modernized and communications were brought to the production facilities, which were leased to businesses. According to specialists’ calculations, they will ensure the creation of an additional 100 jobs.
“In addition, as part of the initiative, we applied a new technology of remote accounting and regulation of the street lighting system via cell phone,” Valentin Kara continues. – By the way, lighting in the city is carried out with the help of solar panels. For this purpose we have created a municipal solar power plant for 0.5 MW. It allows us to use free electricity. Lighting costs about 1.5 million lei per year. We save them and allocate them for the development of other areas. At the same time, we implement projects on climate change. We have created a municipal nursery for 7.5 thousand seedlings for planting greenery in the city”.
