Research projects can receive up to 600,000 lei in funding for research

The National Agency for Research and Development (ANCD) has announced a call for proposals titled “Promoting Excellence in Scientific Research” for 2027–2028. A total of 24 million lei has been allocated to fund research, and the maximum grant amount per project will be 600,000 lei.

Government organizations engaged in research and innovation are eligible to participate in the competition. The project leader must be a researcher holding a Ph.D. or a habilitation degree and having at least 10 years of research experience.

Each research team must consist of two to four members, including early-career researchers, doctoral students, master’s students, or recent university graduates.

Grant Amounts and Research Areas

The total budget for the call for proposals is 24 million lei—12 million lei for each of the two years of the program. Up to 600,000 lei may be allocated per project, and a total of approximately 40 projects are planned to be funded. Each project will last 18 months.

Funding is provided for research in five strategic areas, including healthcare, agriculture and food security, the environment and climate change, societal challenges, as well as innovative technologies, digitalization, energy, and cybersecurity.

According to the agency, the projects must be aimed at producing world-class scientific results and their subsequent practical application in the economy and society.
