Nha Trang, Vietnam, topped the global ranking, with an average nightly rate of about 81 euros at a 5-star hotel. Otherwise, European destinations make up the bulk of the list: eight out of ten cities are located in Europe, notes Euronews.
First place in Europe went to Zaragoza, Spain. The average cost of a night there is about 140 euros. The city stands out for its relatively low tourist traffic compared to the country’s more popular destinations. Zaragoza is Spain’s fourth-most populous city and is known for its Mudejar architecture, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Second in the European part of the ranking is Wrocław in Poland, where the average cost of accommodation is also around 140 euros per night. The city is known for its historic center, also listed by UNESCO, and the Centennial Hall.
Among the destinations with affordable hotels is Tirana, the capital of Albania, where a night in a five-star hotel costs around 150 euros. The report highlights the National History Museum and the Bunk’Art museum complexes.
Riga, Latvia, made the list with similar prices—around 150 euros per night. The city is known for its Art Nouveau architecture and its Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Zagreb in Croatia offers comparable prices—around 150 euros per night in high-end hotels. Among its attractions are St. Mark’s Church and the Museum of Broken Relationships.
Sofia also made the list, where the average cost of a five-star stay is around €157 per night. It stands out for its combination of Roman ruins, a burgeoning culinary scene, and ski resorts in the surrounding area.
Heraklion, Greece, on the island of Crete, made the list with a price of €157 per night, as did a number of other destinations in Eastern and Southern Europe.
Tallinn rounds out the European portion of the list: there, the average cost of staying at a 5-star hotel is about €163 per night.
Outside of Europe, Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic made the top 10 with a similar average price—about €163 per night.
The report specifically notes that travel costs are influenced not only by seasonality but also by travelers’ behavior. According to the source, booking a hotel a few days before the trip saves an average of up to 26% compared to booking several months in advance.
The impact of the arrival day is also noted. Starting a stay on Sunday can reduce costs by approximately 14% compared to arriving on Saturday.
According to travel expert Melanie Fish, as prices rise, tourists are becoming more price-sensitive and are increasingly looking for ways to optimize their spending without compromising the quality of their vacation.
