According to the minister, the National Culture Fund received a record budget of 31 million lei in 2026. Last year, it was also unprecedented, amounting to 28 million lei. With these funds, 161 cultural projects were realized in Moldova. Thus, more than 40 premieres took place in the theater sector, 16 premieres were presented in the cinematography sector, 7 of which were supported by the ministry. More than 80 titles of books were published under the National Book Publishing Program. The National Program “Access to Culture” was launched for the first time, within the framework of which hundreds of events were organized – festivals, film screenings, performances, exhibitions, craft workshops throughout the country. In addition, Moldova joined the program “Creative Europe”, with funding of more than 400 million euros.
The minister expressed gratitude to the 17,000 employees of the national cultural system. He emphasized that the results achieved last year are the fruit of the work and dedication of all the people from this sector.
For 2026, the Ministry of Culture intends to continue major infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the buildings of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, the completion of the technical documentation for the Centre for Contemporary Art “Universul” and the restoration of the Villa of Engineer Pronin, as well as the future building of the National Museum of Romanian Literature.
The Cultural Vouchers program will also be expanded: the goal for 2026 is to reach a threshold of 5,000 beneficiaries among young people.” Another priority is the new media law and the implementation of the plan for the protection of journalists.
It should be noted that the cultural sector today has 2.6 thousand libraries, 1.2 thousand houses of culture and over 130 museums. The Ministry of Culture includes 39 institutions.
