Mirror of the Moldovan economy. Logos Press is 35 years old!

Logos Press has become a harbinger and a conduit for all of this. The first issue of the 4-page publication was entirely devoted to how to create a small business. And this approach for many years became the basis of the philosophy of the first serious private print publication in the country – to be useful to business and society, telling in an accessible language about complex economic realities.

By and large, Logos Press is a mirror of the Moldovan economy throughout the country’s independent existence. The pages of our newspaper reflected all significant events in the economic life of the country – privatization, land reform, access to foreign markets, creation of market institutions and regulatory framework, emergence of the national currency…. Since the first years of Moldova’s independence, we have been impassioned chroniclers of the formation and development of the state, the emergence of its heroes and anti-heroes, the adoption of momentous decisions.

The main thing that Logos Press has is its name and dignity. We won them by professionalism and talent of journalists and publishers, objectivity and reliability of publications. The independence of editorial policy has always been an unconditional priority of the publication, which is appreciated by our readers. This has not always been to the liking of those in power, but it is a good thing. The political coloring of the authorities in Moldova has changed many times, but Logos Press has remained faithful to its principles. We have not been considered “our own” by any power, but we have not been considered “outsiders” either. We are proud of this.

Today, many people perceive the paper newspaper as an anachronism, a “disappearing type” of information product. And many people do not hide their surprise: Logos Press is still published on paper? Why are you doing this in the age of the Internet?

This position is not quite correct: there are quite a few countries in the world where paper press is in demand despite the development of the Internet. The undisputed leader is Japan, which ranks first in the world in terms of print circulation. And there the interest in the paper press is not falling, but growing. Newspapers are popular in the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, India, Finland, Turkey and many other countries. In Vienna, Hanover, Bonn, Munich and other cities in Austria and Germany, you can easily find cafes that offer fresh newspapers along with a cup of coffee. Moreover, in some developed countries the “fashion” of reading newspapers as a demonstration of one’s status and solidity is returning. And “hanging out” on a smartphone in public is considered mauvais.

Unfortunately, this does not apply to Moldova yet. In Moldova, print media, as well as the media in general, are going through bad times, and it is hard to argue with that. It is a remarkable fact: almost every major airport has stands with local press in duty free stores. At the Chisinau airport there is also a stand with a corresponding inscription. But there is no press. Instead of newspapers and magazines, stationery of fashionable Western brands was placed there….

So why is Logos Press still published on paper? The answer is simple: out of respect for our readers. To those loyal fans of ours who still can’t imagine their day without a fresh newspaper. Believe me, there are many of them. Out of respect for real journalism, which is still associated with the print press and television, not with bloggers, Influencers and YouTubers.

And with the hope that in Moldova, businessmen, officials and all reading people will also get over the current widespread craving for smartphone mauvais and will want to be status and solid – with a newspaper in their hand.

We work for you, dear readers! Together we have traveled this 35-year path, and we will surprise you many times. Thank you for your choice and support. We are still true to our Logos motto: “We are read, we are counted”.
