This is a record figure. In some time intervals, renewable sources generated over 82% of the consumed energy. This situation became possible due to the increase in generating capacity from renewable energy sources, a decrease in electricity consumption on weekends, and favorable weather conditions.
Over the past five years, the capacity of photovoltaic and wind generation has increased 8 times, to 689 MW in May of this year, which is 109 MW more than at the end of 2024.
Almost half of the capacity has been developed thanks to the support mechanisms offered by the state: net metering, fixed tariff and the law on renewable energy.
More and more economic entities are selling energy on the free market – a clear signal that renewable energy sources are becoming a viable and attractive option for investors.
In 2024, Moldova produced about 33% more of its own electricity than in 2023. The main increase was due to the construction of new solar power plants and wind turbines.
Thus, Moldova is approaching the 2030 targets: at least 27% of energy from renewable sources in final consumption.
