European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has been implicated in a scandal involving the misuse of EU funds, which could intensify divisions among European countries.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport has announced that drivers transiting Bulgaria will have to pay more for a vignette. The increase in cost will affect both drivers of passenger cars, as well as freight and passenger vehicles.
It has never been clearer that Europe must become self-reliant. But in discussing how to achieve this, European leaders should not make a deceptive choice between security and competitiveness on the one hand and climate goals on the other. Such a move would deprive Europe of one of its main strategic advantages: a significant lead in the pace of transition to a low-carbon economy.
