The elections are over, passions have calmed down a bit. Next came the “technical” procedures for approving mandates and forming parliamentary governing bodies.
Situations when, due to political differences and personal ambitions, local councils are unable to find a compromise and vote for an important project are multiplying in Moldova. Scandals during budget approval in the capital have become almost a tradition, with this scenario repeating itself for the second year in a row. But if last year it took seven months to make a decision, this year it took nine months. And this situation is not only in Chisinau.
According to estimates by the National Bureau of Statistics, economic activity in Moldova declined for the third consecutive quarter in the first quarter of 2025, with an annual growth rate of 1.2%, Romanian economic analyst Andrei Radulescu said for the Financial Intelligence portal. Since 2014, he has been chief economist at Banca Transilvania and researcher at the Institute of World Economy of the Romanian Academy of Sciences.
We live in an era of very flexible standards. In 2020, breaking microphones and breaking dishes in parliament, which became a kind of starting point for early parliamentary elections in 2021, was considered a noble form of expressing the will of the people. But in the next convocation, blocking the rostrum or attempting to speak out was already treated as a gross violation of the rules of procedure.
In the revenue part of the national public budget, the most significant growth of revenues in percentage terms in the first half of the year was recorded in fines and sanctions – the growth amounted to 49.1%. In monetary terms, the controlling and supervising state bodies collected 101.7 million lei more from fines than in the first six months of 2024.
As of February 5, 2026, some of the permitting documents of business entities will be replaced by notifications, and for the rest there is a provision to reduce the cost of issuance, shorten the review time, exclude certain supporting documents from the list of submitted documents, increase the validity period, etc.
The European Commission has allocated an additional €18.9 million to Moldova under the Reform and Growth Mechanism, thus confirming the EU’s continued support for the country’s reforms. At the same time, given the significant progress made by Moldova in reforms, the EU encourages entrepreneurs to invest in the country.
A whole cluster of IT specialists has emerged in the world who need only a personal computer and high-speed Internet to do their work. Without being “tied” to a particular place of residence or work, these specialists choose the countries that are most suitable for living, in terms of climate, consumer prices, taxation, etc.
The level of indexation of pensions in Moldova in 2025 exceeded the inflation rate. According to the authorities, this ensured a real increase in the income of pensioners. The opposition believes that they were only restored their income to the level of the previous year, taking into account price increases, and that the rights of pensioners were violated due to insufficient compensation for past years. Experts say that the pension system requires deep reform for sustainable and fair pension provision. Otherwise, both the state and pensioners themselves will continue to “run as hard as they can just to stay where they are”.
In just one month – in June 2025. – the state budget deficit increased by 2 billion lei. According to the Finance Ministry’s report, the state budget execution at the end of the first half of 2025 ended with a deficit of 7.6 billion lei, while at the end of May it amounted to 5.6 billion lei.
In two years, 40 projects have been launched in the municipality of Carpineni (Hincesti district) with the assistance of the Business Consulting Center. Mostly of economic nature, with the help of which local entrepreneurs were able to realize their business ideas or improve them. Many village development projects are implemented by local authorities with the help of the Center. Moreover, not only in the commune of Carpineni, which includes the village of Chorzesti, but also in the neighboring villages of Hincesti and Leova districts. This is the first and so far the only such experience in Moldova.
The electoral period of parliamentary elections has started in Moldova. Formally, the election campaign will start only on August 29, but it feels like it has been going on for a long time. Back in May, the government launched an information campaign “Moldova Poate” (“Moldova can”). The State Chancellery signed a contract with the winner of the tender – SCP PARSEC. The initial estimated total value of the contract was 5 million lei, while the actual value was 4 million 280 thousand lei. According to the contract, the company undertook to ensure about 1 million YouTube videos, more than 200 thousand posters and at least 65 billboards throughout the country.
