The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has nominated candidates for the posts of Moldovan ambassadors to India and Portugal

At its meeting today, the Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee approved favorable advisory opinions on the nominations of two ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova. Inga Ionescu will be appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of India. Sergiu Gurdza will be appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Portuguese Republic.

Ambassadors Inga Ionescu and Sergiu Gurdza

During the meeting, Dumitru Socolan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented the candidates and highlighted their professional experience and expertise, emphasizing that the experience accumulated by the two candidates will contribute to promoting the interests of the Republic of Moldova and strengthening relations with the countries of accreditation.

Inga Ionescu has more than 25 years of experience in public administration, diplomacy, and international economic cooperation. Throughout her career, she has held leadership positions at the Ministry of Economy, the Chisinau City Hall, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contributing to the promotion of the Republic of Moldova’s economic and trade interests. She also served as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Estonia from 2016 to 2020. At the Ministry of Economy, she coordinated the negotiation and implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the European Union, as well as negotiations on a number of international trade agreements. Since 2021, she has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she heads the Institutional Management Department, participating, among other things, in the organization of the European Political Community summit in 2023. For her professional achievements, she was awarded the “Meritul Civic” medal.

Sergiu Gurdza is a diplomat and civil servant with over 16 years of professional experience in the fields of justice, good governance, and external relations. He is currently nearing the end of his term as Consul General of the Republic of Moldova in Istanbul. Throughout his career, he has held government and strategic management positions, including: Deputy Minister of Justice, Chief State Advisor to the Prime Minister, member of the Central Election Commission, and advisor to the Speaker of Parliament. For his contribution to public service, he was awarded the state honor “Ordinul Onoarei” in 2025. He is also actively involved in the non-governmental sector as an associate member of the Association for Democracy through Participation (ADEPT).

The ambassadors will be able to begin their duties after the completion of all legal procedures, including their appointment by a government resolution and a presidential decree.
