The award ceremony took place on May 21 within the framework of the 21st GLOBSEC Forum, which was held in Prague under the auspices of Czech President Petr Pavel. As one of the most influential international platforms in Central and Eastern Europe, GLOBSEC brings together heads of state, politicians, business leaders and experts to find solutions to the most acute geopolitical challenges of our time.

The head of state dedicated the award she received to the citizens of Moldova:

“To those who fought for democracy for three decades; to those who removed autocrats and oligarchs from power with their votes. And those who voted for Europe despite Russian pressure and threats – those who refused to sell their vote or give in to intimidation. And also those who simply go to work every day. I am here because of them. It is a great honor for me to represent these people.”

On the sidelines of the forum, President Maia Sandu held a bilateral meeting with her Czech counterpart Petr Pavel. The two leaders reiterated the solidity of the Moldovan-Czech partnership, which is characterized by well-developed economic ties, growing trade turnover and enhanced cooperation in the security and defence sectors. The Czech Republic remains a consistent supporter of Moldova’s European course.

Also, the head of state participated in a panel discussion on Moldova. During the session, she shared Moldova’s experience in countering foreign interference and hybrid threats. Maia Sandu emphasized that the foreign interference in the Moldovan elections is a worrying signal for the whole Europe, especially for the countries where electoral campaigns are scheduled for 2027.

We shall remind you that the other day, Maia Sandu received the Order of European Merit. This is a new award, established on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. Its purpose is to recognize an outstanding contribution to European integration and protection of EU values. The head of state called the award a great honor.
