It complements the “Personalities” series. The coin is issued in memory of Queen Maria of Romania (1875-1938), who played a decisive role in the unification of the Romanian principalities and the formation of a national identity. Queen Maria devoted herself to the realization of the national ideal of the Great Unification, joining Bessarabia, Bukovina and Transylvania to the unified Romanian state, the NBM said.
The commemorative coin is minted from silver, has a nominal value of 100 lei and a mintage of 750 copies. The design was developed at the State Mint of Romania.
The coin is packed in a transparent methacrylate capsule and a presentation box, and it is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
“The release of this commemorative coin is a gesture by which we confirm the continuity of the values that keep us in the European space today: dignity, freedom and creation. Queen Mary remains a symbol of the courage and vision that brought people together in decisive moments. She reminds us that the strength of a nation is based on strong characters and respect for its own history”, states Anca Dragoo, President of the NBM.
The certificate contains a QR code that allows direct access to information on the coin’s characteristics, available at the official website of the National Bank of Moldova.
The jubilee coins are sold to the general public by the National Bank of Moldova both on the basis of applications submitted online in the “Coin” section on the institution’s website and through licensed banks of Moldova.
